East Bay Habitat is Going GREEN!

East Bay Habitat is Going GREEN!:

This is a unique development in that the homes incorporate environmentally sustainable design and our "green" building practices. We used sustainable and recycled building materials, and passive and active solar energy features. We also recycled 90% of our unused building materials (the City of Oakland only requires 51% of construction waste to be recycled). The homes have modular framing, basing all layout on 24" centers. Using this system of framing, as opposed to the standard 16" on center framing we eliminated 30% of the framing material typically used on a project of this size. All framing lumber used was FSC certified (wood produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner). This was East Bay Habitat for Humanity's first "green" development and we have continued to build "green" ever since.
