Project Description:

This development, created in partnership with the Crockett Community Foundation, consists of six new homes located in downtown Crockett. Crockett is a small town built on the south bank of the Carquinez Strait nestled between industries and steep hills at the foot of the I-80 bridge to Vallejo. The project provides six homes to very low-income residents of Crockett and western Contra Costa County, while also helping spur the revitalization of an older town struggling with the lack of new investment. The partner families for this development have all completed 500 hours of sweat equity building thier own homes and the homes of their new neighbors. All six homes were framed during East Bay Habitat's Independence Day Build-A-Thon in July 2002. The homes are all completed and the dedication was held on Sunday, June 1, 2003.

Thanks to the Habitat Community:

Habitat for Humanity works when the whole community comes together to address the need for affordable housing. Everyone has a unique gift to offer whether it's volunteering on site or on a committee, making a donation, getting your faith community involved, sponsoring a house, working on sweat equity hours or just spreading the word about Habitat's mission! All help is welcome, needed and appreciated!

Partner Families and Volunteers:

The families have collectively contributed more than 3000 hours of sweat equity. The Midweek Crew, with 34 members, has made a huge impact getting work done on the weekdays when we have fewer volunteers. We have a committed crew of Saturday regulars, some of which have been volunteering every Saturday for 10 years and bring a great deal of skill to the building process. JobCorps, an at-risk youth construction training program, has donated all the electrical work. Greg Bowman designed, donated and constructed the HVAC systems for all six homes and has been a regular volunteer throughout the build. St. Rose Catholic Church and Pinole United Methodist Church, have provided volunteers, food, meeting space and housing for out-of-town groups. We also thank David and Heidi Gonzales for providing lunches and Girl Scout Troup #1730 for bringing us cookies. And the AmeriCorps team comes with a lot of enthusiasm and previous Habitat experience and has helped to make things run smoothly on site and in the office.
