Habitat for Humanity East BayFriday we had 6 Women’s Crew members (Monica, Bobbie, Gerry, Cel, Lian and Flor) Flor’s husband Hugh joined us as well as regulars Terry and Chuck. We got the final base coat of paint on the exterior and got started on the trim. We also noticed that PG&E had been by some time last week and replaced the meter with a new Smart Meter.
After lunch, Hans directed Bobbie on the electrical box demolition and installation of the new one. She led the team of Flor and Hugh and nearly finished the whole job. Hans worked on getting the boxes and cable installed in the kitchen. We also took delivery of all the kitchen cabinets and appliances so we got those loaded into the living room until they’re ready for installation. Terry and Chuck cut and tacked down the sub-floor in the kitchen. I couldn’t help but give Hans a hard time since he showed up with a jack hammer…after we’d broke up all concrete by hand the weekend before. As we were cleaning up getting ready to call it quits for the day, a neighbor from down the street had stopped and asked if he could have some of the concrete pieces. We told him sure, because the more he took, the less we’d have to load into the dumpster the next day. Turns out he was going to use it to build raised planting beds. Unplanned recycling, gotta love it! He was on his 2nd load when we all left!
Saturday had 7 Women’s Crew members (Amy, Lisa G., Monica, Gerry, K.O., Donna, and Bobbie) and Peter Veganes. We started Saturday with loading up the dumpster with all the debris that had been accumulating since the last dumpster drop as well as what was left of the broken up concrete from the driveway. Bobbie and Donna headed up into the attic to install radiant barrier. Not a fun job, but they got almost half of it finished. Lisa G. painted the solid core door that will lead from the kitchen to the garage.
While the rest of the crew got busy finishing the trim painting. Monica nailed up the sub-floor in the kitchen. Nail every 6 inches…that’s a lot of nails but it’s now ready for the Marmoleum. No, that's not a typo...Marmoleum is one of the few products made from primarily natural raw materials. It is made up of linseed oil, rosins, and wood flour, calendared onto a natural jute backing. Garage door installer was out and we now have a brand new garage door, it looks great!
Monica and Amy discussed the landscape design and got some measurements. Amy is working up a sprinkler design and doing some material estimating.
Photos from this past weekend are already posted in the online scrapbook (newest photos are always at the end, so scroll down. Check back here next week for another chapter in the Bonifacio Project Blog!

Installing radiant barrier is not the most enjoyable job, but it is essential to ensuring an energy efficient home.
