Habitat for Humanity East BayWe started Friday with Lian and Bobbie back in the attic working on the radiant barrier. New Women’s Crew members Janet and Leonda worked with Cel and first time volunteer Alex Scott to finish digging the trench for the French drain from in front of the garage to the back of the house. The 3 ladies later moved on to digging out the area for the eventual front walk way. They did a great job as it’s now ready for concrete forms.
Terry and Chuck got the new drywall up in the kitchen including taping and mudding. They also got started on installing the kitchen door that leads to the garage. Unfortunately it was not pre-hung so it was quite a challenge. Monica removed a deck board so the old water line and spigot could be cut back and capped at the back of the house by Lowell. She also drilled the hole in the garage wall so Lowell could install the new ¾” line and spigot at the back. Alex and Bobbie moved under the house to start installing the electrical wires. Monica and Lian were up top drilling the holes and helping to pull the wires. All this was happening in the rain that started before lunch and stayed light but steady. It was a pretty muddy mess by the time we called it quits for the day.
Saturday had 8 Women’s Crew members (Monica, Bobbie, K.O., Donna, Diane, Lian, Joyce, and new member Non). We also had 5 other volunteers, too many for the work Mike had scheduled. Joyce heard this and volunteered to go home. Because of Friday’s rain we had lots of dried mud in the house and garage that needed to be cleaned up. KO and Non got started in the house scraping and sweeping floors while Joseph Torres (Jr. and Sr.) got to work in the garage. Team Torres also straightened the garage up before they left early before lunch.
Bobbie and Donna completed the installation of the radiant barrier in the attic. Lian took new comers Dayanne and Jeanine under the house to continue running the electrical and TV coax and phone cables. (Each bedroom and the living room will get TV coax and phone.) Monica worked up top cutting in a couple more boxes and pulling cable as they were ready. KO and Non moved to the back, joined by Diane, to sand the picnic table that we’ll leave for the family. An experienced new volunteer (Mitchel) showed up late morning so Mike put him to work on getting the skim coat of mud on the new kitchen drywall. After lunch KO and Non moved to the attic to start running electrical cables to Monica below for all the switches and lighting. Mitchel started un-boxing kitchen cabinets and labeling doors and removing them in prep for installation (hopefully next week). The house was to have a vaccuum test on Monday so Lian taped over all the switch and electrical outlet openings in prep for that.
This blogger is missing Kathy and is anxiously awaiting her return.
Photos from this past weekend are already posted in the online scrapbook (newest photos are always at the end, so scroll down). Check back here next week for another chapter in the Bonifacio Project Blog!

Working in the crawl space under the house is never pretty, but very necessary!
