Bob Ingalls
Bob has been an extremely valuable asset to East Bay Habitat for Humanity, volunteering 300
hours since 2002. You've seen him on Saturdays willingling stepping up to complete any task,
and leading groups of other volunteers as well. Thank you, Bob, for your work on our Fremont,
Crocket, Fruitvale, and West Oakland projects. Keep coming out!
How long have you been with East Bay Habitat?
Regularly since October 2002. Although, I have been working with Habitat for Humanity since early 1998.
What brought you to Habitat?
I wanted to give back to my community and was looking for volunteer work. Habitat for Humanity was a good fit as I gained construction experience helping my Grandfather and Uncle work on their rental properties starting at age 12. And my wife and I have always been do it yourselfers on our homes.
What motivates you to continue to volunteer with Habitat?
I enjoy working side by side with the homeowners and like the camaraderie of working with other volunteers. Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity has shown me that one person can make a difference in the lives of others. Because of this, I still get excited each time I drive to the job site.
Can you recount a funny story that has occurred on the construction site?
We were doing interior painting and a couple teenagers decided to paint each other as well as the inside of a closet. They looked like they had more paint on them than the walls.
What have been your most memorable experiences on the job site?
I volunteered to be a Crew Lead for one house at a seven house, eight day Blitz Build in 2000. When I got to the site, I was told that I would be the Crew Lead for earthquake bracing for all seven homes. We got all the work done, but I was so tired by the end of the eighth day that I fell asleep at 7:30 PM. But even more memorable is the satisfaction each time I see homeowners get the keys to their new homes.
If you could be any tool on the construction site what tool would you be?
A hammer. On a wood framed house you get to work from the foundation to the roof and everywhere in between.
What is your favorite job on site?
Passing out Popsicles on a hot day! Actually, I enjoy doing anything. My philosophy is, tell me what you need done and I'll do it.
