Individual Volunteers
Each year, volunteers contribute 35,000 hours of hard work to build homes. No previous construction experience is necessary! Many of our greatest volunteer needs are off the construction site; consider volunteering in our office or ReStore, or joining one of our many committees. Attending our monthly orientation and house tour is the best way to learn more about Habitat for Humanity East Bay. Orientation sessions are held the first Saturday morning of each month.
Construction Program Information
We build with volunteers every Wednesday through Saturday throughout the year, scheduled on a first-come basis. Please consider volunteering on a weekday if you are available. We are so fortunate to have so much support for Saturday build days, that we are usually not in need of additional Saturday construction volunteers.
Volunteers must register for a build day in advance, and individuals may do so online; opportunities are posted approximately three weeks in advance. Group volunteers that sponsor a build day through our Team Building program may schedule their build day several months in advance. Volunteer opportunities are occasionally available for small groups that are unable to sponsor a build day - please inquire about availability.
We are currently building a 26-home development in Oakland and an eight-home development in Alameda. The workday is 8:30am until 4pm, and we ask for a full-day commitment. Habitat will provide skilled construction staff to train and supervise volunteers. All tools, safety equipment and building materials will be provided. For safety and liability reasons, volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers under 18 must have their parents must fill out a Minor Waiver Form.

If you have professional skills that you would like to share, please let us know. Skills could include, but aren't limited to, language translation, photography and videography, graphic design, architecture or engineering. Please let us know what you do best!
