Event Information
- Build-A-Thon dates: Earth Day weekend! Saturday, April 19th, through Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008
- Check-in and Continental Breakfast: 7:30am
- Workday: 8:00am until 4:30pm (full day required)
- Event location: 10900 Edes Avenue, Oakland CA 94603 (directions)
- You may register for as many days as you like. The pledge minimum is $200 per participant per day. for example, if you register for all four days, the minimum is $800. Minimum pledges must be received by the morning of your scheduled build day. (About the funds you will raise)
- Don't stop at $200 per day! Participants who raise higher levels will be eligible for pledge prizes. The prize for the top pledge earner is a pair of roundtrip tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies! (We will gladly continue to accept pledges until the houses are completed at the end of the year. However, pledges must be received by 5pm on April 25th to be considered for prizes. )
- Each participant will receive a Habitat East Bay t-shirt, continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
- All tools are provided for your use during the event.
- You are welcome to bring your own hand tools if you would prefer to use them. Tools you will use include a framing hammer, 25' tape measure, speed square, chalk line, carpenter's pencil, gloves, tool belt, skill saw, chop saw, electrical cords, step ladders.
- Participants must be at least 16 years old. Participants under 18 years old must have a parent or guardian fill out a youth waiver form.
- Skilled builders are needed to be house leaders and crew leaders or to perform skilled building tasks during the event (i.e. stair building, trouble shooting problems, etc.). If you have paid professional construction experience in residential home building, framing, or a related field, please contact Chrissy. (There is no pledge requirement for skilled builders).
20th Anniversary Community Celebration
On April 20th, Habitat East Bay will host a Community Celebration in conjunction with the 2008 Earth Day Build-A-Thon. At this carnival-style event, we invite community members to witness the Build-A-Thon in progress, tour a completed green home, learn about our programs, enjoy refreshments, and take part in Habitat-themed games and activities. This event is open to families. Please stop by!
While you're busy hammering, your supporters can stop by our Community Celebration to check out the action. Please invite them to come out and see firsthand the work that they have made possible. You are also invited to enjoy the festivities, should you decide not to attend the Build-A-thon as a participant.
