Building Young Minds Scholarship Habitat for Humanity East Bay recognizes that helping partner families make sustainable change within their family and their community is a generational commitment. Higher-education can be an integral part in maintaining the momentum of change that homeownership provides. That is why Habitat East Bay offers the Building Young Minds Scholarship to Habitat East Bay youth, funded by College Access Foundation of California. What: For many, the rapidly growing price of a college education is a major factor when thinking about college attendance. High tuition and confusing application processes can even discourage youth from applying. Through the BYM Scholarship Habitat East Bay offers young Habitat scholars need-based funding opportunities. Qualifying students can receive awards to cover the costs of. unmet financial need, and repay burdensome student loans taken out to cover tuition and fees, books and supplies, or room and board expenses. The scholarship funds all qualified students each semester first for unmet financial need, then unsubsidized and subsidized loans, and next to offset work-study awards. Awards are also made with priority given to paying for tuition and fees, then room and board, and then books and materials.
