Freeda Court- Partner Families in Livermore

The Alvarez Family

The Alvarez Family

Edith and Alejandro Alvarez are from Mexico, but all three of their children were born in the East Bay. Livermore is now what they all call home. From the moment they heard about Habitat at their Church, they have dreamed about and worked very hard here at Freeda Court. Today the Alvarez family’s dream of one day being able to buy a house here in Livermore has come true.

The Crowhurst Family

The Crowhurst Family

John and Robyn and their four daughters - Haley, Emily, Madison, and Eden - are looking forward to moving out of their overcrowded 2 bedroom apartment and into a Habitat home. The Crowhursts are happy to be able to remain in Livermore, where John and Robyn are very involved in their church and community. They were so excited to be involved with the Habitat that they took family photos at the site when it was still just an empty lot in order to document the whole process!

She and her family are excited to complete sweat equity during the first phase of construction.

He dreams of being a professional soccer player. Lesly Maricela also has good grades and she loves to write, dance and help anyone she can. She would like to be a teacher or a ballerina. We thank Habitat for Humanity for this great opportunity. It’s a blessing having our dream come true.

The McMillan Family

The Mc Millan Family

For Jayme McMillan, the most important part of being a Habitat homeowner is the ability to give her three kids a comfortable place to live and plant roots. Jayme’s parents have lived in the same house for fifty years – something that Jayme dreamed of providing for her own children but was unable to afford. Now, the kids can go off to college, and Jayme and the Freeda Court neighbors will be there when they return. Jayme thanks volunteers and donors and wants everyone to know that she is forever grateful to Habitat and everyone who gets involved. You are not just giving time and resources – you are giving the family the opportunity to have a place to call home for years to come!

The Mulrooney Family

The Mulrooney Family

Hi, we are the Mulrooneys, Patrick and Lisa and our two children Joshua (10) and Tristen (5). I (Lisa) grew up in San Ramon. Patrick was born and raised in Livermore and has lived here his whole life. We have been looking out of town for a couple of years to buy a house but we couldn’t bring ourselves to take our children out of the good schools that they are in, to put them in a not so great school district and to then commute and on top of that struggle to pay a high mortgage payment, on a house that would need fixing up. So our dream of owning a home looked like it just wasn’t going to happen.

Then one day the phone rang, it was my brother –in-law telling me all about Habitat for Humanity. So I called. Nine months later a miracle happened, a dream. That we thought would never happen. HAPPENED! This will benefit my family in so many different ways. My children can stay in their wonderful school, and we will be able to plan and save for their college. We will have security and stability that we’ve never had before. So many things that this will give to our family.

We thank you East Bay Habitat for Humanity, all of the volunteers, all of the donors, and all of the people who made these dreams come true. Our experience with Habitat will be one that we will never forget.

The Pinkston Family

The Pinkston Family

My name is Kari Pinkston. I am a single mother of three. Brandon is my eldest, he is 17. Jordon is my middle child, he is 12. Cheyenne is my baby, she is 7. My kids have never had a normal home life, or the stability and security that a home is supposed to provide, because we never had a home. I love my children and would do anything for them. I have made a lot of mistakes, but I have learned that it’s never too late to turn your life around.

This opportunity is such a blessing to my family. I never thought I would be able to provide my children with a home that they so deserve. After all they have been through, I want them to have a place where it is safe and secure.

I am a hard worker, but do not earn nearly enough money to qualify for a home – especially in this area. I learned about Habitat for Humanity through a friend, who encouraged me to apply for the Livermore project, and even got me the application. Thank you Casey. I did some research about the organization, and thought WOW these people are for real, I had to try, and this opportunity was too good to be true.

In October 2005 I found out that I was picked to partner with Habitat on the Freeda Court project. Thank you Jesus and thank you Habitat for Humanity for helping me make my kids dreams come true. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to provide a home for my children. My life and my children’s lives will be forever changed.

The Raftery Family

The Raftery Family

Arlene and Annette Raftery are twin sisters who have lived in Livermore for over 20 years. Arlene works at Head Start and is concerned about children and youth. Annette is a “Jane of all trades” who particularly enjoys fixing cars. Arlene’s daughter Kristina will be just old enough to complete sweat equity with her mother and aunt during the third phase of construction.

The Schneider Montoya Family

The Schneider Montoya Family

Michael Schneider and Paris Montoya look forward to a peaceful home with more room for their children, Isaias and Marissa, to play. With increasing rental costs, the family was afraid they would have to move to Manteca, but now have the opportunity to stay in Livermore.

The Tate Family

The Tate Family

Owning a home is a big dream for Yvette, her two sons, Wallace and Walik, and daughter Jaiya. Yvette looks forward to moving out of a large apartment complex to a house with storage space, a dishwasher, and a yard where she can plant flowers. She and Wallace will be out on the site during the first phase of construction.

The Torres Family

The Torres Family

Justo and Veronica stress the importance of teaching their children, Neydelin, Alisondra, Tatiana, Bryan, and Justin, that “being responsible participating members of your community is important no matter what your situation.” This belief is demonstrated through their involvement with church, school, coaching the soccer team, food drives, working with adopted children, and providing bilingual skills for the police department, but, in Veronica’s words, “owning a home makes it so much sweeter.” Veronica remembers being able to decorate her own room as a child, and now her daughter will be able to paint her ceilings purple with green turtles!

The Trejo Family

We give thanks to Habitat for Humanity for the opportunity to give us a new community. We’re going to give our all to finish our hours, to be good neighbors, and to help any way possibly so that we’ll live in harmony together. Thank you for the opportunity that fills our family with happiness because finally, we have a home to call our own!

- Jose Trejo, Dolores Garcia and our children Jose Jr (age 11), Mayra (8), Francisco (4) and Catalina (2)

The Valadez Family

The Washington Family

Thank you Habitat for giving my family and I this great opportunity to become homeowners. We always wanted to be homeowners and it’s finally happened, no more renting. Finally our dreams are happening. Thanks to Habitat and all the people who helped make it possible for my family and I. This is such a blessing for us! Once again, Thank You Habitat and all who helped organize the program.
