Two Habitats: Stronger working as one!

Press release version

April 26, 2007

It is a pleasure and honor to announce that Mt. Diablo Habitat for Humanity and Habitat for Humanity East Bay have joined forces to become one Habitat affiliate. This one affiliate, “Habitat for Humanity East Bay,” will serve both Alameda and Contra Costa Counties – the entire East Bay!

We are very excited about working together to achieve greater impact in our area. By combining our resources, our staff and board expertise, and by eliminating duplicate overhead, we will be able to accomplish more than we could as two separate entities. Donor dollars will be leveraged even further to meet the challenges of affordable housing in the East Bay.

The two affiliates were founded independently, nearly twenty years ago, out of local grassroots efforts to face mounting shortages of affordable housing in our respective neighborhoods. The growth of the East Bay and the rapidly changing economic situations in all of our communities have made our similarities more common and the need for a united approach to those challenges more compelling.

Our two affiliates collectively have created homeownership opportunities for more than 180 families across 19 developments in nine cities throughout the East Bay. Just think what we can do together now!

As a united Habitat for Humanity East Bay, we will be a stronger developer of affordable housing by increasing our capacity to acquire more land, build more homes, partner with more families and expand our commitment to green building. As we elevate our profile throughout the East Bay, our role as advocates for successful homeownership opportunities for low-income families will be even more effective.

Our mission remains the same. Our commitment to you, our valued supporter, remains the same. We will continue to utilize the time and resources you dedicate to Habitat for Humanity in the most economical and productive way possible.

We will also need your continued support as we move into this new organizational model. Please feel free to contact us with your questions, ideas, and support. You may reach our staff at (510) 251-6304 or info@habitatEB.org. Please continue to check back to our website for updates, more information, and ways to get involved. You may also subscribe to our monthly e-News here.

As we move forward, excited about the tremendous possibilities that lie ahead, we thank you for your continued dedication and support.

Sincerely,

Michael O’Kane, Board President
