Habitat for Humanity East BayHabitat is a partnership founded on common ground bridging theological differences by putting love into action. Everyone can use the hammer as an instrument to manifest Gods love. Habitat founded Millard Fuller called this concept The theology of the hammer, explaining, "We may disagree on all sorts of others things, but we can all agree on the idea of building homes with Gods people in need." Habitat for Humanity welcomes all people to build in partnership. Habitat is about tearing down walls and building bridges. It is about bringing hope and transforming lives. It is about serving God by serving others.
Habitat for Humanity East Bay has its roots in the faith community, and our Thrivent Builds partnership and Covenant Congregation relationships are a fundamental part of our success. Community faith groups are essential partners in organizing the man-power and will-power that is within our community, and focusing it towards a common goal.
Thrivent Builds is a national alliance between Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Through this alliance, Thrivent Financial has contributed more than $106 million during four years to fund and build Habitat houses across the country. 2009 brought the formal four-year alliance to a close, but Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity continues in 2010. On behalf of its members, Thrivent Financial is funding the 2010 program with a $15 million commitment, including funding to build an additional home in the East Bay! This continued support maintains Thrivent Financial's position as Habitat for Humanity’s largest non-government sponsor worldwide. Lutheran congregations and Thrivent Financial members are invited to get involved. Read more.
Through the Covenant relationship with Habitat East Bay, faith groups express with their prayers, time, energy, and dollars that all people are entitled to a safe place to call home. Covenant Congregations are vital partners in our ministry, and new Covenant Congregations are welcome. Read more.
Faith groups are invited to build with us on our construction sites. Please visit our Construction FAQ web page, and email Volunteer@HabitatEB.org to learn how to schedule a build day for your group.
"I consider my volunteer work with Habitat as a part of my tithe of time, talent, and money for Gods work in the world."
