Habitat for Humanity East Bay
Kathy Schmitz, a dedicated All-Women's Crew member, will be chronicling the progress of the revitalization taking place on Bonifacio Street. The house was bequeathed to Habitat for Humanity East Bay by Clarice Garrison, a very generous Legacy Society donor. The home, sponsored by the Women's Crew, will be rehabilitated and sold to a low-income family.
Work has continued, but most excitingly, we're getting ready for the March 20th home dedication. We're working hard, along side the partner family, to ensure that the home will be ready for the presentation of the keys.
Because of the dry and mild weather, Friday was mostly an outdoor work day, and by the end of it, there was a noticeable improvement in curb appeal, which is a good thing with the March 20th dedication coming up!
Friday morning, we all walked around admiring the newly-refinished hardwood floors in the living room, hallway, and both bedrooms. An outside contractor did the work the previous week, and the floors look beautiful! Then a crew of three got busy covering walkways across those floors with red rosin paper to protect them as we continue to work on the house!
We’re so close to finishing this house, we can taste it! The changes from the first day to this point are amazing, as are the folks who have put in so much time, effort, and heart! Although there were some issues with weather at the beginning of the weekend, we continued to put the finishing touches on this lovely home.
The rain has been unyielding, but that hasn't stopped us from getting the work done. Twelve volunteers came out of the gray and cloudy Friday to accomplish some major tasks to keep the rehab on track. We're getting closer!
