Habitat for Humanity East BayThe first day of the event started off with bang, and the energy of the participants was palpable. Nearly 350 people stood under the program tent this first morning, like thorough breds ready to run from the gate. But, instead of a competitive edge, volunteers were all smiles and exicted to be a part of something larger than themselves.
The crowd was a great mix of Habitat East Bay veterans, and participants that had never been out on a Habitat site before. Both groups seemed to feel comfortable with the task that lay ahead: frame 20 homes in four days! It will prove to be a great adventure for all of us, as this is the largest Build-A-Thon ever attempted by Habitat East Bay.
By the end of the day, many of the first floor exterior walls were standing. Having started with just 20 concrete slabs this morning, this progress reminds you of what is yet to come.
